He’s 1!

So over 2 months later, I’m finally remembering to put together a post for little man’s 1st birthday…better late than never, right!?

We didn’t do a big fancy party, just a tiny one in our kitchen with a few Curious George decorations and a little cake!

Dad had fun with his hat…

TJ had a good time eating his cake

And I of course tried to get a photo shoot in, and this is by far the best pic I could get…

I did manage to get one last monthly photo for the frame on the wall…glad those are over!!

It was a laid back birthday party since we are so far away from family now, but it was fun to celebrate with just us and we went out to dinner with friends later so we had a very good day!

So far I have made it to the gym twice this week..woohoo! I have decided I am going to run a half marathon in June so now I have to get my butt in gear and start running regularly before training actually starts.  Both times I ran 3 miles so I’m happy with that.

Little man got his first haircut on Monday.  Now he looks like a little boy and not a baby…be still my heart.

Photo: Had to share one more of him in the chair :)

He is basically a walker now, he can get up on his own and he falls down and gets back up and walks again and he is growing up and I don’t know what to do with myself anymore.

I am also in full-fledged party planning mode…his birthday is 24 days away! I think I have settled on Curious George, but ask me again tomorrow.

I need to figure out what to eat…I have gotten way to lax on my dairy consumption and my tummy is mad…I need to get that in check Sad smile

I started watching Hunger Games yesterday and I really want TJ to wake up from his nap so I can finish it.

Hoping I can go for another run tonight!

New Years Eve

I feel reflective today as I lay here with my son napping next to me.  His sleep habits have gotten a lot better, but there is an occasional nap that is finished while cuddling me, whatever works right?!

2013 brought a lot of changes to our little family, some we knew were coming (like having a baby), some we didn’t (like moving across the state).  All I believe were for the better, but right now we are kind of in an in-between stage.  We have our house up for sale and are living in a very small apartment in a new town while we either wait for that to sell or get our finances ready to buy another house.  I also am at a crossroads job-wise.  I have scaled way back on my “day job” and am unsure if I even want to continue with it at all (there are a lot of issues with the way the company is run and it makes it hard to get work done), and have taken on a couple side projects, but nothing that brings in significant amounts of money.  I have options, I just need to decide what to do.  I want to stay home with my son and do something creative, but until we have our finances figured out, I am hesitant to not be bringing in a steady paycheck. Sorry this is getting a little heavy, just feel the need to write today.

We are happy in our new town and my husband is doing a job that he loves, though we are really far from family now.  We are so excited to start a new beginning and place our own roots..we really feel like this is where we should be.  The hard part is to wait for the housing situation to work itself out.

As the new year approaches, I know we have many more changes coming our way, and I am so excited to see where the year takes us!

There are many things I would like to accomplish…though I don’t know that I want to write down too many concrete goals, as I sometimes set myself up for failure, so I will keep it simple this year…

1. Enjoy the time I get to spend with my son and be the best mother I can be

2. Buy a new house

3. Run at least one half marathon

I have a feeling there will be a lot of changes this year!  I have a couple projects up my sleeve and hope to share more soon….

Little mans first Christmas was awesome!

We had a blast soaking up little man’s first holiday season! He didn’t quite understand the whole unwrapping presents thing, but once we got the toys out, he played his little heart out!  He was spoiled by so many family members and we are so grateful for the time we got to spend with everyone!

We of course had to take him to see Santa, and this is how it played out:

First, he just kind of looked up and was like, who’s this guy…

Photo: Before he figured out what was going on

And then he realized it was some dude with a beard and he wanted to pull that beard and started crying…

Photo: Not loving Santa

I kinda figured he would cry…he does awesome with strangers…but only when they approach him, not when I throw him at somebody and the lady elves are all like, just put his back to santa and set him on his lap and walk away…ya, little man is curious, so the first thing he does is look around to see where I just put him, so that trick does not work.  But oh well, I think the pictures are funny, and Santa handled that beard pulling like a champ!

He took his first steps about two weeks before Christmas, so while we were visiting everyone, we were constantly trying to get him to walk.  Last time we were at Grandma’s, he needed help pushing this Mater guy, now he can do it by himself!

Not really unwrapping his presents:

See, he thinks you just climb on it:

Seriously, this one present took like 20 minutes…we started just opening them for him…

He got a tool belt and this picture kills me:

And we figured out how to get him to sit still

He was a trooper with all our traveling and I can’t wait until next year when we can start some traditions at home Smile

9 Months

I know I have fallen off the blog bandwagon, but I had little man's check-up recently and still want to try to keep tabs on him somewhere :)  He was a whopping 22 lbs and I think 26 inches tall???  His head was something like 13 inches round...basically he has a big head and is still my little chub!

He is going to bed somewhere between 7 and 8 and sometimes wakes up an  hour later, sometimes sleeps for a couple hours before that first wake up, but mostly we are down to about 3 wakings per night.  We stopped night feedings and you are doing great with that, basically you just need a little reassurance from mom and you fall right back asleep.  You have however decided that you like to wake up at 5 am...not cool. Sometimes I can get you back to sleep till 6, but not all that often.  We are down to 2 naps a day and you are doing better at taking longer ones, although mostly you wake up halfway through and I have to put you back down...but hey, whatever just don't really like sleep all that much, afraid you'll miss something :)

Still love car rides, fall asleep almost instantly.  Love to eat, just about anything! You are getting better at picking things up and can eat a lot of finger foods.  Things you eat most often are bananas, grapes, apples, cheese, bread, sweet potatoes, oranges, crackers, beans, hot dogs, mum mums, puffs, anything in a pouch.  We try new things with you a lot, and sometimes you like them, sometimes you don't.

You have crawling totally mastered, you put your head down and go as fast as you can until you run into something, and then you turn and do it again!  You can stand by yourself for about 2 seconds and have mastered falling onto your butt.

I love this age as you explore new things and are figuring out that the spoon goes in the bowl and how to hit things together.  You can say mama pretty well (although I'm not really sure you know what it means yet), you also say gagas and babas and lots of babbles and coos.

You are discovering how to "share" by putting whatever toy you're holding into mom's mouth.  Basically, you are a joy to be around and each day just gets better and better!

6 Months

Little man is already 6 months old! He is growing like a weed and changing everyday!  The most exciting thing ever is watching him grow!

He is rolling from back to tummy pretty much constantly.  Anytime I put him on his back, he immediately rolls over.  Then he sometimes forgets that he can roll tummy to back cuz he just gets mad when he’s ready to be done on his tummy.

He can sit up without us holding him.  He will topple after a while, but he does pretty darn good.  Another thing as soon as I put him on his back anywhere but the floor (changing table, bed) he tries to push himself to sitting…can’t quite do it on his own though.

I swear any second he will start crawling, he just needs to figure his legs out, he has the arms pretty much down.

He is still nursing like it’s his job (I guess technically, it is) and he is eating peas, sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, bananas, pears and a spinach-peas-pears combo.  Anytime we give him fruit for the first time, we get nasty faces and he pushes away the spoon, then after trying for a couple days he starts liking it.  Any veggie we give him, he devours and wants more.

He has also had watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, and carrots in his mesh feeder.  He has a sophie the giraffe and a couple teething rings he loves to chew on, but his favorite thing to play with is a blanket.

He will grab everything, loves paper and my camelback.  He has started grabbing our faces and pulling in with open mouth to try to eat our chins…it is the cutest thing ever!

His first tooth popped up on July 30, the bottom right one, and the left one is white so it should be popping up soon too.

He still will not take a bottle, but I am a lot less stressed out about it.  He will take one when he’s ready Smile

At his 6 month appointment, he was 18 pounds 2 ounces and 26 inches long.  He is slightly chubby, but healthy.

He goes to bed between 8:30 and 9 and sometimes sleeps till 4:30 and then again till 7:30, but mostly he still wakes up 2-3 more times than that.  Hoping now that his teeth finally came in, he will start sleeping a little better! He is sleeping in his crib, and naps are getting better. He usually gets one or two hourish long ones, plus two more 30-40 minute ones.  Almost always 4 though…which is crazy.

He is talking and screeching and laughing more and more and those noises make me the happiest person ever simply because they sound so full of joy.

He still likes car rides and walks but if the car is not moving he sometimes gets upset.  He loves bath time and being naked. After changing his diaper, we always look at a sticker of thing 1 and thing 2 that is above the changing table and he goes crazy over it! Overall, he is still a very happy baby and there isn’t much he doesn’t like.

I love this little boy more and more everyday, and am so proud to be his mommy Smile

I already got in two runs this week…feeling like a rockstar!  I am thinking of doing maybe the insanity workout dvds or something like that so I can get in some exercise other than just running.  That way I can workout while little man is napping and then get a run in like 2-3 days a week.

I am still following Whole 30, just very loosely and mostly my meals are thai chicken and broccoli, pork chops, fruit and veggies.  So not really worth posting about.  I did make a cool salad with spinach and squash, it looked pretty so I took a picture:

Little man had his first tooth come in on Tuesday! And it looks like the second one is making it’s way through as well.

He had his 6-month checkup today and he is 18 pounds 2 ounces! He is 26 inches long…and I think she said his head was like 24 cm or something like that. But basically in the 50-60 percentile for height and weight and like off the charts for his head size.  He had to get shots Sad smile Add that to the teething and I have one poor little guy…who is actually sleeping on me right now…hasn’t done that in a while!

He is also rolling all over the place and all he wants to do is sit up, or chew on something.

This picture kills me…
